Women in Need

The AREW Charitable Fund supports Women in Need through several key programs, including the Family Friends program, greeting card sales and Secret Santa gifts at the holidays.

Overview
Can you imagine how difficult it must be to be on the street homeless, with your children in tow?

WIN provides support, a temporary residence, and helps families find permanent housing. Once they have moved into permanent housing, families face daunting adjustments. Many have not had a home of their own for a very long time. WIN offers counseling, relocation assistance, crisis intervention, alcohol and substance abuse treatment, day care services and summer camp programs. WIN actively combats homelessness, promotes self-sufficiency and independence, and builds self esteem for women through programs that teach basic home and child care as well as job skills. AREW members have supported WIN since 1990.

The WIN Secret Santa Program
Each year AREW members and friends volunteer to receive a letter from one or more children in a WIN residence.  Each child writes to Santa with three wishes for holiday presents.  Thanks to the generosity of AREW, we have been able to fill the dreams of approximately 200 children every year. Members and friends can play Santa to one or more children, at their discretion, and can provide one or more gifts per child. In the spirit of the season, many members also choose to send a gift for the child’s mother along with the Secret Santa present for the child.

WHAT SUPPORT MEANS

"I appreciate all the time and assistance WIN is willing to offer me. When you are living in poverty people tend to judge you and believe something is wrong with you. I have never used drugs, been in trouble with the law or deviated in any way. I am very determined to be off public assistance by December. Thank you for the part you play in helping me to reach my goals."
